Jump Rope for Heart

It was a lot of fun jumping rope today with all the HMS students! Our hearts were pumping.  We know how important it is to be active.

      

Aloha Parents,

The keiki participated in the annual Jump Rope for Heart campaign today under perfect weather conditions. Through Jump Rope for Heart, they learned jump rope skills and how their hearts work. They also raised money, through your generous donations, to help other children with special hearts. There were several heart healthy events today; jumping rope, a balance beam, an obstacle course, jump rope competition between the grade levels and even among several teachers!
Let's continue to keep active every day to build strong hearts and to stay healthy. Mahalo to the friends, relatives, and families who showed their support to this cause.

The IXL assignment for March includes the following:

• Category K - Positions
• Category Q - Measurement

Please remember:

• Tuesday, March 3rd - Library books due
• Tuesday, March 10th - Spring Picture Taking.  Please choose the background for your child's pictures and return the form to me by Tuesday, March 10th.   All forms will be given to the photographer.
• Thursday, March 12th - Spring Ohigan Service in the Temple. Please dress your child appropriately.  
• Monday, March 30th - March Book Share, MyOn (minimum 10 books), and IXL assignment (Categories K and Q) due

Jump Rope for Heart

Everyone in the school had lots of exercise for their hearts by jumping rope and going on the obstacle course on our new Greenspace. We wish we could do it more often.

Our Spring Program will be held on Friday, April 25th, beginning at 8:30.  Remember to arrive early so you'll find a parking space.

Our miniature Ninjas will need to wear black t-shirts, black long pants, and black socks with black shoes. Tamayo Sensei has purchased a mask and orange gloves to complete their outfits.

 

If your child wishes to share Easter goodie bags/treats with the other keiki, please bring them in by Wednesday, April 16th.  They will be distributed on Thursday, April 17th.

• Tuesday, April 8th - Buddha Day - No School
• Wednesday, April 9th - Library Books due
• Thursday, April 10th - Polynesian Cultural Center Consent Form with payment due (PCC Forms to be distributed on Monday, April 7th)
• Friday, April 11th - Kuakini Health System Open House Walking Learning Trip, 9:00-11:30am. Attire - HMS t-shirt and sport shoes
• Thursday, April 24th - myON Reader and Book Shares due

Life Learning Activities

What a busy week!  Besides learning about Presidents Washington and Lincoln and enjoying Jump Rope for Heart, we measured objects around the class. The highlight of the week was having fun at Dole Plantation where we rode on the Pineapple Express Train, getting lost in The Maze and seeing different sizes of pineapple. Our favorite part was the Dole Whip...mmmmm, good!

Dear Parents,

Mahalo for the cute Valentine treats shared on February 14th.  Everyone was so excited to eat the sweets!

• Monday. February 18th - Presidents' Day, no school.
• Wednesday, February 20th - P.E. class rescheduled since there is no school on Friday, February 22nd.
• Thursday, February 21st - Musubi Man musical, 9:00am in the Social Hall.
• Friday, February 22nd - Parent-Teacher Conferences, keiki are invited to attend.
• Wednesday, February 27th - Decorated Shamrocks due (Information will be distributed on Monday, February 19th) 
• Thursday, February 28th - Jump Rope for Heart envelopes due.
• Thursday, February 28th - myON reading assignment should be completed.

All of us at HMS enjoyed moving our bodies this morning by participating in the Jump Rope for Heart event.  We raised money and helped those with heart problems to live a better life.
